Why not build a tunnel like the one being built in Denmark to Sweden which will have been done in 7 years. It would take a much shorter time because it'd be much shorter. The European tunnel will is being built using concrete section the are being sunk onto a trench piece by piece. The best part you can have 5 tunnels for the price of one, each section can have rail and car traffic.
Last thing we need are more road tunnels, ESPECIALLY going into midtown. The Fehmarnbelt tunnel is a much different beast as the railway and the roadway ARE needed to cut the travel time from those two points.
At the tunnel in Denmark they can build approaches right up to the water. For the Hudson tunnels they need to go under parts of the city as well, so it’s far better to use a conventional boring machine
I can't for the life of me understand why it took 6 to 7 years to build the original tunnels without tunnel boring machines; all the technology we have today and it's going to take 10 years to build a 2-mile tunnel.
Way to go
Will take 10yrs or so
rich agg rich with a smile love it
The gateway to the Gateway.
its ridiculous that they're not using this opportunity to add subway access to midtown!
That would require additional separate tunnels, so would be best done as a separate project
